So a PhD is the highest qualification in education that you can get. It means doctor of philosophy. So you can’t just be called doctor as that would imply you’re a medical doctor and could lead to some very awkward situations if someone is in need of urgent attention!! So you have GCSE, A-Levels, BSc/BA (Undergraduate at University), MSc/MA (Masters at University) then a PhD. A doctor in philosophy can have anything from a PhD in Geography like me to one in english, maths, psychology , anything really!

As Sophie said, a PhD is the highest qualification in education. It includes a big project that you need to focus on studying for at least 3 years. It can be done in any subject.
