• Question: How many paitients needs a pacemaker?

      Dear Olaf,
      This is a very important question, and one that doctors are still working on today! About 500 people get a pacemaker every week in the UK, but many of them do not need them. The problem is it is very hard to tell who needs one and who doesn’t, but because not getting a pacemaker when you need one is deadly, the doctors are more likely to give a person a pacemaker rather than not.

      I think this problem is very interesting, and probably it will be around for a while, so you can probably work on it when you are older if you want.
