A pacemaker is a device that is put into your body and sends electrical signals to the heart. The timing of these signals tells your heart how fast to pump, which is also called the pace, and why the device is called a pacemaker. In most people the heart makes its own signals, but in some people who are sick it cannot, which why they get a pacemaker.
