      Good question! I work for a consultancy as a member of staff, so they pay my monthly wage.

      My consultancy has lots of contracts with other companies that we work for, clients, so when a client wants me to do something, they pay the consultancy and the consultancy pays me! Sometimes it gets even more complicated if a project is being run by another consultancy or engineering company, but we have strict rules that we follow in terms of always knowing who is actually ultimately paying the bills.
