There are areas of poor air quality all over the UK. These are called Air Quality Management Areas. Local authorities (councils) have a duty under the environment act to monitor the air in their areas. Any areas they find that aren’t meeting the UK limits for pollution (for nitrogen dioxide its 40ug/m3) they have to declare an air quality management area. You can see if there are any near you by looking on the defra website (https://uk-air.defra.gov.uk/aqma/maps) or on your council’s website.
