• Question: What is your advice for the younger generations who perhaps have an interest in the sciences or even want to have a job/role within the science "department"? Do you suggest any paths to be taken or courses or trips to go on?

      I would say if you can get any extra experience go for it like an extra science project or even just visiting science museums gives you loads of extra knowledge outside of the classroom Manchester and London are great as is the world museum in liverpool, the natural history museum. If you think you want to get into science just make sure you take at least 2 sciences at college as universities tend to want two

      Follow your curiosity and your dreams. Try to talk to people who are involved in science, and visit museums and anything you think is interesting. At the same time make sure you do well in your courses at school, even if it isn’t always obvious why you need to know something. Good grades will open doors to you, and many things you learn will make sense years later.

      For example Steve jobs took a course in calligraphy while study at university, he didn’t know what it would be good for. Years later he was designing computers for apple and realized that the writing on a computer screen needed to look good. That is when he remembered calligraphy and designed many fonts we use today.

      As Stephen Hawking said, “Be curious”!

      Find out what companies have their offices in your local area and write to them saying you’re interested in the science they do could you visit? Lots of events run during the holidays at museums and colleges, look these up near you.

      A lot of scientific professional societies and universities have programs to reach out to young people interested in science.. for example;

      The Geological Society runs a competition for school teams

      And your school could arrange a visit from a STEM Ambassador
