      Yes, but I had a strong belief in what I was doing so I was doing my best to prove the opposite!

      People usually do not say these things to you directly unless they are angry or mean. It is very hard to make a career out of science and I do not know if it will work for me, but I won’t listen to anybody who tells me that I cannot make it. I only have one life and I want to use it to follow my dreams. You should too.

      My parents (a lawyer and a librarian) had a tough time understanding exactly what sort of job I’d end up doing with a science qualification, but that was mainly because they hadn’t really met many scientists… in the end I won them over by saying its like being an engineer (who are also scientists really!). Stick at it!
