I did my PhD in Norway and it took me three and a half years! The length of a PhD varies a bit from country to country. In the US it is very long and can be up to six years, whereas in Europe it is usually faster.

I did mine in the US, and it took seven years. (I should have done it in Europe!)

It’s longer, on average, in the U.S. than in Europe. As far as I know, there is no great reason for the difference.
